Vectr: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Vectr is a cloud-based vector graphics editor and logo maker with real-time collaboration. Users share a workspace via a link, work on a design simultaneously and can export to formats including SVG, PNG, JPG, EPS, AI and PDF. It also includes conversion tools such as image-to-vector and background removal, and AI features such as text-to-vector, upscaling and inpainting. The service runs in the web browser and is delivered as SaaS.

Vectr was acquired in 2017 by 123RF, part of Inmagine Group, and has been part of Pixlr Group since 2023. The website names Pixlr Pte. Ltd. as operator. Its privacy policy names no hosting location; it states that data may be transferred outside the EEA to other Pixlr companies and third-party processors, relying on binding corporate rules or standard contractual clauses, and lists an EU representative in Hamburg. Vectr is not open source. A European organisation should have the processors and hosting location confirmed before use.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Vectr

Vectr is headquartered in SG, outside the EU. Contracts and data therefore also fall under non-European law. The GDPR applies through contractual terms, but in a conflict with local legislation you have less certainty than with a European vendor.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Vectr scores best on data residency.

Vectr is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Vectr together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
