Yle Areena is the streaming platform of Yle, the Finnish public broadcaster. It offers live streams of Yle's radio and television services plus on-demand programmes: series, films, documentaries, comedy, reality shows and children's and youth series, as well as video podcasts. The service launched in 2007 and carries content in Finnish and Swedish, with sign language, audio description and short newscasts in languages including Sámi, Arabic and Russian. You use Areena in a browser and through apps for TV, Android and iPhone or iPad. Signing in is possible for personal recommendations.
Yle is headquartered in Helsinki and 99.98 per cent owned by the Finnish state; the public broadcasting tax funds the organisation. There is no foreign parent company, so ownership gives no CLOUD Act signal. The service is not open source. According to Wikipedia, Yle's services are available in Finland and elsewhere in the EU for people whose registered residence is in Finland. The pages consulted do not state where Areena hosts data.
