Yodeck: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Yodeck is cloud-based digital signage software for managing screen content remotely from a single dashboard. It offers scheduling, playlist management, remote screen monitoring, multi-user access with role-based permissions, offline playback, templates and integrations with services including Power BI, SharePoint, Google Drive, Canva and Microsoft Teams. The Yodeck Player is a pre-configured Raspberry Pi; Yodeck also runs on Android TVs, in web browsers and on other compatible devices. AV integrators, IT companies and managed service providers can resell or white-label the platform.

According to its subprocessor list, administration of the services is handled by Flipnode Ltd in Greece (EU). Amazon Web Services is named as the cloud provider, with data stored in Ireland and Sweden. For some functions Yodeck uses US-based processors, such as SendGrid for email and, optionally, Google and OpenAI for AI-generated text and layouts. The software is proprietary. For a European organisation, the relevant point is that, per the list, core data is stored in EU regions of a US cloud provider.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Yodeck

Yodeck is headquartered in GR and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Yodeck hosts data in EU, US. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Yodeck is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Yodeck together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
