AWS App Runner is a managed service from Amazon Web Services for building, deploying and scaling web applications and APIs from source code or a container image. It handles deployment automatically, load balances incoming traffic with encryption, scales capacity with demand, and can communicate with other AWS applications inside a private Amazon VPC. It is a PaaS offering that runs only inside the AWS cloud.
AWS states that App Runner has not accepted new customers since 30 April 2026. Existing services remain operational but no new features are planned; for new container deployments AWS points to Amazon ECS Express Mode. AWS is a subsidiary of the US company Amazon.com, Inc. According to AWS documentation, App Runner is available in regions in the US, Asia-Pacific and Europe (Frankfurt, Ireland, Paris and London), so a European region can be chosen. AWS offers a data processing addendum with standard contractual clauses. As a US company, AWS remains subject to US jurisdiction, including for data held in European regions.
