AWS Elastic Beanstalk is a managed application service from Amazon Web Services for deploying and scaling web and backend applications. Customers supply source code, a Dockerfile or a container image, and the service handles provisioning, scaling, patching and health monitoring. It runs in Standard mode, with one environment per application, or in Cluster mode, where applications share infrastructure on Amazon EKS. The customer keeps control of the application code.
Amazon Web Services is operated by Amazon.com, Inc., a US company headquartered in Seattle, Washington, with no majority shareholder named in the public sources. Elastic Beanstalk runs in the AWS regions the customer selects and is available in all commercial AWS regions. AWS publishes a GDPR commitment and a Data Processing Addendum, and customers choose where their data is stored. For a European organisation, the main sovereignty consideration is US jurisdiction: the US CLOUD Act can apply to data held by a US provider even in an EU region.
