AWS Lambda is the serverless compute service from Amazon Web Services. Developers run code in response to events, such as an upload to S3, a change in DynamoDB or an API call, without managing servers. According to AWS, Lambda connects to more than 220 AWS services and offers Lambda Functions, Lambda MicroVMs for isolated execution, and Lambda Managed Instances with dedicated EC2-backed capacity. It is a cloud service used through the AWS console and APIs.
AWS is a subsidiary of US-based Amazon and is subject to US law, including the CLOUD Act. Lambda is available in several European regions, including Frankfurt, Ireland, Paris, Milan, Spain, Stockholm and Zurich, and customers choose the region where their data is stored. AWS applies a data processing addendum with Standard Contractual Clauses automatically. Note that choosing an EU region does not remove the provider's US jurisdiction, and Lambda code is closely tied to other AWS services, which affects portability.
