Azure Container Apps is a serverless platform from Microsoft Azure for running containerised applications without managing servers or orchestration yourself. Typical uses include API endpoints, background jobs, event-driven processing and microservices. The service scales automatically based on HTTP traffic, events, CPU or memory load and any KEDA-supported scaler, and most applications can scale to zero. It has built-in support for Dapr, jobs, containers from any registry, your own virtual network, and management through the Azure CLI, portal or ARM templates.
The platform is part of Microsoft, which is headquartered in the United States. According to the FAQ, Azure Container Apps does not move or store customer data outside the region where the service is deployed, so you choose a European Azure region yourself. In its Data Protection Addendum, Microsoft offers GDPR terms in which it commits to the obligations of a processor. Because Microsoft is a US company, US legislation such as the CLOUD Act remains applicable, including for data held in European regions.
