bupaR: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

bupaR is an open-source suite for handling and analysing business process data in R. It is built around the event log, a record of events that occurred during the execution of a business process. The core package creates event log objects and handler functions, filters event data, computes descriptive statistics, works with Petri nets and visualises process maps. It is aimed at researchers and analysts doing process mining in their own R environment. It is installed from CRAN or GitHub and runs locally, so there is no vendor-operated service.

bupaR was developed by the Business Informatics research group at Hasselt University in Belgium, which is listed as copyright holder; the maintainer is Benoît Depaire. It is released under the MIT licence. Because the package is not a hosted service, data stays in the environment where R runs, and there is no foreign parent company. As an academic project, support comes through documentation and the community rather than a commercial agreement, so organisations needing guarantees should plan their own maintenance.
