PM4Py: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

PM4Py is an open-source process mining library for Python. Developers, researchers and data analysts call ready-made functions instead of building the algorithms themselves. It supports process discovery (directly-follows graphs, Petri nets, BPMN models and process trees), conformance checking, performance analysis, process statistics, organisational mining, event-log filtering and object-centric process mining. You install PM4Py with pip and run it inside your own Python environment.

PM4Py was developed at Fraunhofer FIT. Since 2024, Process Intelligence Solutions GmbH, a spin-off of Fraunhofer FIT, has been responsible for its development, maintenance, distribution and licensing. The community version is released under the GNU AGPL v3, which means software that uses PM4Py must itself be published as open source under the AGPL; a commercial licence is available for closed-source use. Because the library runs locally, your event data stays in your own environment, with no mandatory cloud service or external processing. For European organisations this is a straightforward route to process mining with full control over the data.
