Robot Framework: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Robot Framework is an open-source automation framework for test automation and robotic process automation (RPA). You write automations in a keyword-based syntax and extend them with libraries written in Python, Java and other languages; existing libraries cover, for example, web testing through Playwright and mobile apps. You install the framework yourself, for instance with pip install robotframework, and it carries no licence fees.

Development is funded by the non-profit Robot Framework Foundation, registered as Robot Framework ry in Helsinki, Finland. Companies and organisations sponsor the project. The software is released under the Apache License 2.0. Because Robot Framework is distributed as open-source code and runs in your own environment, there is no vendor-hosted service: you decide where data is processed. For European organisations this is a self-operated option, with stewardship of the code resting with a Finnish foundation.
