DAVx⁵: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

DAVx⁵ is an Android app that synchronises contacts, calendars and tasks with servers that speak CalDAV, CardDAV or WebDAV. You enter the details of your own server, and the data then appears in the regular contacts, calendar and task apps on the device. WebDAV file access is also possible. The app is aimed at organisations and individuals who run their own groupware, for example with Nextcloud, and is installed through F-Droid or the commercial app stores.

DAVx⁵ is developed by bitfire web engineering GmbH in Austria and is open source under the GPLv3. In the commercial app stores it is offered for a fee, while the source code stays freely available. According to its privacy policy, the app sends no personal data to the maker's servers and synchronises only with the server you specify, so your data remains under your own control. Support requests are handled in a helpdesk system located in Berlin. Development of the WebDAV Push standard was co-funded through NLnet and the EU's NGI Zero programme.
