DigiD is the Dutch government's digital identity. Citizens use it to log in to public services and to prove their identity online, and government bodies and organisations with a public task can use it to verify their users. It is delivered as an app and through login methods such as SMS codes, a username and password, and checks against an identity document.
DigiD is operated by Logius, part of the Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, which is the data controller. The privacy statement says personal data is stored on infrastructure in the Netherlands and is not transferred outside the EU. That statement does not cover third-party components inside the app, such as crash monitoring and push notifications, which need separate review. As a government service, DigiD is not open source, and no self-hosted version has been identified. It is a national scheme, so its use is tied to Dutch public services.
