Fleetbase: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Fleetbase is a modular, open-source platform for logistics and supply chain operations. Its modules cover, among other things, fleet management and dispatch (Fleet-Ops), e-commerce and order fulfilment (Storefront), and invoicing and accounting (Ledger). It is aimed at businesses that want to manage transport, delivery and orders in one system. You can install it yourself or use it as a hosted service, Fleetbase Cloud.

Fleetbase is maintained by Fleetbase Pte. Ltd., a company incorporated in Singapore. The source code is released under the AGPL-3.0, alongside a separate commercial licence, so you can run the software on your own servers and keep your data there. For Fleetbase Cloud, the privacy policy names no hosting location or provider; it does refer to the GDPR and to standard contractual clauses for transfers. The project received funding through NLnet and the EU's NGI programme for integrations with Solid and GNU Taler.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Fleetbase

Fleetbase is headquartered in SG, outside the EU. Contracts and data therefore also fall under non-European law. The GDPR applies through contractual terms, but in a conflict with local legislation you have less certainty than with a European vendor.

Fleetbase hosts data outside the EU (OTHER). Personal data therefore leaves the EU, which requires a transfer mechanism under the GDPR and pulls the data residency score down.

Fleetbase is open source. You can audit the source code, self-host the software and keep the encryption keys under your own control. Switching is easier because data and software are not tied to a single party.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Fleetbase together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
