GanttProject is a desktop application for project scheduling with Gantt charts, covering task scheduling, timelines, resource allocation and cost management. It runs offline on Windows, macOS and Linux and can read and write Microsoft Project MPP and MSPDI XML files, so files can be exchanged with organisations that work with Microsoft Project. An optional cloud service, GanttProject Cloud, adds shared editing for teams.
The software is developed by BarD Software s.r.o. in Prague, Czech Republic, and is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3, so the code can be inspected, modified and self-hosted. Because the desktop application keeps project data on the user's computer, the sovereignty question mainly concerns the optional cloud service, for which the website states no hosting location or data processing terms. A European organisation that uses only the desktop application keeps its data on its own equipment.
