Bitrix24: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Bitrix24 is a business collaboration platform that combines CRM, task and project management, communication, document storage, website building, HR functions and workflow automation. Project teams use Kanban, Gantt and Scrum views and time tracking; sales and service teams use the CRM, contact centre and marketing tools. An AI assistant is also included. Bitrix24 is offered as a cloud service and as an on-premise edition that customers install on their own server.

The contracting entity depends on the customer's country. For many European countries, including Germany, France and Spain, it is Alaio Cloud Limited in Limassol, Cyprus; customers elsewhere contract with Alaio Inc. in the United States. In the cloud edition, data is hosted on Amazon Web Services, either in the EU (Frankfurt, Germany) or in the US (Virginia). The on-premise edition can be hosted in the customer's own country. The software is proprietary. European organisations should explicitly select the Frankfurt region and include the company's corporate structure and ownership in their due diligence.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Bitrix24

Bitrix24 is headquartered in CY and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data. The ultimate owner is based in RU. Foreign control undermines part of the certainty a European headquarters offers.

Bitrix24 hosts data in EU, US. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Bitrix24 is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Bitrix24 together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
