gisib: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

gisib is an integrated management system for public space, for organisations that manage roads, greenery, sewers, lighting and engineering structures, such as municipalities, provinces, water authorities and contractors. It is object-oriented: every asset, from sewer pipe to tree or lamp post, sits in one database and is linked to the others. Users manage data, carry out calculations and inspections, and draw up plans and reports. gisib is a client-server application that runs on the customer's own SQL Server, Oracle or PostgreSQL database server; hosting the server externally is also possible.

gisib is developed by gisib B.V. and DG Groep in Woerden, the Netherlands, and belongs to the Dutch Afinius Groep; no parent company outside the Netherlands is named. Because the software runs on infrastructure of the customer's choosing, the customer largely decides where data is stored. The website publishes a privacy statement for the website only, and no data processing agreement for the product. Ask about the terms for external hosting and remote maintenance.

Why digital sovereignty matters with gisib

gisib is headquartered in the Netherlands and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

gisib runs on infrastructure you choose and control yourself. You decide where the data lives, including fully within the EU if you want — this is not a fixed hosting choice made by the vendor.

gisib is closed source, but you run the software yourself on your own infrastructure. The encryption keys and the runtime therefore stay under your own control, though you cannot audit or modify the source code. Ask about export options and open standards to limit software-level lock-in.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs gisib together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
