GNU Mailman is free software for managing electronic mail discussion lists and e-newsletter lists. It is written in Python, has a web interface and offers built-in archiving, automatic bounce processing, content filtering, digest delivery and spam filters. Mailman 3 is a suite of several components: Mailman Core as the list manager, Postorius as the web interface for administration and HyperKitty as the archiver. Organisations, associations and software projects install it on their own servers; the older 2.1 series also remains available.
Mailman is a GNU package maintained by a community of developers, coordinated by a steering committee. Copyright is held by the Free Software Foundation, a US non-profit based in Boston. The software is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later. Because you run Mailman yourself, subscriber lists, messages and archives stay on the infrastructure of your choice; the developers do not offer a cloud service of their own for it. The source code is maintained on GitLab.
