Group-Office: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Group-Office is open-source groupware and CRM software from Intermesh BV in 's-Hertogenbosch. The suite bundles collaboration (email, calendar, document editing, chat and video calls), CRM with address book, newsletters and support, finance with invoicing and contracts, project management with tasks and time tracking, and file management with search and templates. With Studio, power users build their own modules. Devices synchronise email, contacts, calendars, notes and tasks via IMAP, ActiveSync, CalDAV, CardDAV and WebDAV.

Group-Office comes as an open-source version and a paid edition, self-hosted or online. In the online variant Intermesh hosts the software; according to the vendor, data can also be kept on your own systems or in a secure Intermesh data centre in the Netherlands. The company is based in the Netherlands, an EU member state, and no foreign parent company is known. For a European organisation this is a route to keeping groupware within the EU, with the option of running it yourself.
