eXo Platform is an open-source digital workplace for internal communication and collaboration. It combines an intranet, an employee social network, a portal as a single access point to applications and knowledge, and collaboration spaces for teams. It also offers multilingual environments, branded mobile apps, no-code configuration, connectors and extensions, and AI features with governance controls. The vendor positions it as an open-source alternative to SharePoint, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
eXo comes in several editions: a free Community edition you run on your own infrastructure, an Enterprise edition for private cloud or on-premise use, the SaaS edition eXo Hubs, and an OEM edition for software vendors. The Community source code is on GitHub. eXo describes itself as an independent, family-owned company with offices in Paris, San Francisco and La Marsa. The website does not say where the SaaS edition is hosted; organisations that need EU data residency can run the Community or Enterprise edition themselves.
