Docs is a collaborative text editor from La Suite numérique, the set of digital tools created and operated by DINUM, the interministerial digital directorate of the French government. It is a real-time editor for writing and organising structured knowledge, with the emphasis on content rather than formatting. It runs as a web application in the browser, and its source code is published under the MIT licence.
La Suite numérique is operated by DINUM, and Docs is developed jointly with Germany's ZenDiS. The hosted offer runs on SecNumCloud-qualified infrastructure in France, and the French site states that data is stored and processed in France. Organisations can also deploy their own instance on Kubernetes or Docker Compose, which keeps hosting and jurisdiction under their control. Access to the state-hosted service is limited to State agents and their invited partners. For a European organisation this is an open-source, self-hostable option with a public-sector origin, though its GDPR documentation should be checked before use.
