HarmonyOS PC is the personal-computer edition of Huawei's HarmonyOS operating system. Huawei presented the first PCs running it in May 2025, including the MateBook Pro and the MateBook Fold, replacing Windows on its own laptops. The system was reworked for these machines, with changes to the kernel, file system and developer tools among others, and includes an AI assistant. For apps the ecosystem does not yet support, a virtual Windows environment can be used. It is installed on the device itself and supplied with the hardware.
Huawei Technologies is headquartered in Shenzhen, China, and describes itself as employee-owned, although that ownership structure is disputed. There is no foreign parent company. The system is proprietary and not open source. At launch the offering was limited to China, and it is unclear whether European sales will follow. No commitments on the GDPR or on where data is stored are stated. A European organisation would need to assess this itself before use.
