IBM Cloud Code Engine is a fully managed serverless platform on which organisations run container images, source code, functions and batch jobs without managing the underlying infrastructure. It scales workloads up and down automatically, including to zero, and supports event-driven functions, compute-intensive jobs such as ETL and simulations, and parallel workloads on virtual machines or GPUs. The platform is built on the open-source technologies Kubernetes and Knative and is delivered as a cloud service within IBM Cloud.
Code Engine is a service of IBM, a US company headquartered in the United States, and is therefore subject to US legislation such as the CLOUD Act. Customers choose an IBM Cloud region; in Europe the documentation lists regions in Germany, Spain and Great Britain. The service itself is not open source. IBM offers a data processing addendum that applies to IBM Cloud when the GDPR applies, with notice and a right to object to sub-processor changes. For Code Engine, check the relevant data sheet and the region you select.
