IDEMIA is a group that develops biometric identity, cryptography and secure-transaction products. Its IDEMIA Public Security unit covers biometric access control, justice and public-safety systems, travel and border control, and identity services such as driving licences. The IDEMIA Secure Transactions unit covers payment cards, digital payments, eSIM and IoT connectivity, and cybersecurity products such as hardware security modules. Its customers include governments and banks.
The group has its head office in Courbevoie, near Paris, and is a French SAS. Advent International, a private-equity investor, is named as its parent, so ultimate control may lie outside France. The privacy policy states that the group complies with the GDPR. It also says personal data may be processed in countries outside the EU, and that transfers to third parties outside the EU rely on EU standard contractual clauses. A European organisation should therefore check the processing locations and sub-processors in its contract rather than rely on the company's home country.
