Jelastic, now part of the Virtuozzo Application Platform, is a multi-cloud platform as a service built on container technology. It targets hosting providers, software vendors, telecom companies, enterprises and developers. It supports environments for Java, PHP, Ruby, Node.js, Python and Go, as well as custom Docker containers and Kubernetes clusters. The platform is available as a public cloud across many data centres, and as virtual and on-premises deployments.
Jelastic was acquired by Virtuozzo in 2021. Virtuozzo is a privately held software company headquartered in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, while Jelastic itself is listed as a US subsidiary. Switzerland belongs to EFTA, not to the EU. Because the platform runs in data centres worldwide, an EU data centre has to be chosen explicitly. The Jelastic platform itself is not open source, although Virtuozzo publishes separate open source projects such as OpenVZ and CRIU. For European organisations, the party operating the platform matters at least as much as the vendor behind it.
