Kaseya VSA: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Kaseya VSA is a remote monitoring and management (RMM) platform that lets IT teams, mainly managed service providers, administer endpoints remotely. According to Kaseya it provides automated patching of operating systems and applications, real-time monitoring with alerts and auto-remediation, policy-based automation, IT asset and licence inventory, mobile device management, secure remote control, and integrations with PSA, backup and security tools. Kaseya describes VSA as a cloud-based solution; according to Wikipedia it can also be installed on-premises.

Kaseya Limited is a privately held company headquartered in Miami, Florida, with Insight Partners as majority owner. As a US company, Kaseya is subject to the US CLOUD Act, including for data stored outside the United States. The product page does not say where SaaS data is hosted, so a European organisation should ask the vendor to confirm and contractually fix the hosting region. Using VSA also gives a US-based provider a management channel into the whole managed device estate. VSA is not open source.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Kaseya VSA

Kaseya VSA is headquartered in the United States. US vendors fall under the CLOUD Act and FISA 702: US authorities can compel access to data, even when that data sits in a European data centre. That is the core of the jurisdictional exposure in our model.

Kaseya VSA hosts data in US, EU. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Kaseya VSA is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Kaseya VSA together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
