Keboola: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Keboola is a cloud platform for data integration, transformation and orchestration. It loads data from databases, cloud services and APIs, stores it, transforms it with SQL, Python, R or dbt, and automates workflows with Flows. Keboola is available as a multi-tenant service, as a variant where you bring your own database (such as Snowflake or BigQuery), and as a single-tenant deployment in your own cloud.

Keboola is headquartered in Prague, Czech Republic (Keboola Czech s.r.o.), with offices in London and Chicago. The multi-tenant stacks run in the US (Virginia), in Frankfurt (AWS and GCP) and in Ireland (Azure). According to its data processing agreement, cloud sub-processors process data in EU data centres unless the customer requires another region. The platform is SOC 2 Type II certified and the agreement includes Standard Contractual Clauses. Because the stacks run on AWS, Azure and GCP, the underlying infrastructure remains in the hands of US hyperscalers, even when hosted in an EU region.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Keboola

Keboola is headquartered in CZ and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Keboola hosts data in EU, US. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Keboola is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Keboola together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
