Kepler is an open-source Prometheus exporter that measures energy consumption at the level of containers, pods, virtual machines and processes. It reads hardware sensors, including through Intel RAPL, and attributes the consumption to workloads according to their resource use. The result arrives as metrics in your own Prometheus, so you can follow energy alongside cost and performance. For OpenShift, a Kepler Operator with guides is available. This gives you insight into the consumption of your own clusters without depending on the sustainability reports a cloud provider shows in its console.
Kepler is licensed under the Apache License 2.0 and has been a CNCF Sandbox project since May 2023. The CNCF is part of the Linux Foundation, which is based in San Francisco (US). It is software you run yourself; there is no hosted service from the maintainers, so the measurements stay in your own environment.
