mebis is the Free State of Bavaria's digital education offering for schools. It comprises a learning platform, a media library with video and audio material from public broadcasters and municipal media centres, and articles on media education. Teachers and schools use it for digital teaching. The offering has since been integrated into the BayernCloud Schule (ByCS), which also bundles cloud storage with office functions, a messenger, video conferencing, school email and educational media. Schools may use it voluntarily and free of charge.
The platform is a public-sector service: the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture, the ISB and the ALP are involved. The BayernCloud Schule was developed and is run by the school data centre of the IT-Dienstleistungszentrum (IT-DLZ) of the Free State of Bavaria; for resource-intensive services such as video conferencing, messaging and cloud storage, external components are used in addition. There is no commercial owner and no foreign parent company. The service is intended for schools in Bavaria.
