Microsoft Project is Microsoft's application for project planning, scheduling and the management of tasks and resources. Organisations use it to set up projects, plan them and track progress. It is offered as Project for the web, a cloud service administered within an organisation's Office 365 environment. The software is proprietary and not open source.
Microsoft is headquartered in Redmond, Washington, in the United States, and is a publicly traded company. Because it is US-headquartered, US legal orders can reach data under Microsoft's control, wherever that data is stored. Through the EU Data Boundary, Microsoft offers EU storage and processing for many of its cloud services, and it says that processing of personal data outside the EU is limited rather than eliminated. Data locations are documented per service, so a European organisation should confirm where Project stores its data and which transfer terms apply.
