Mirth Connect is an integration engine for healthcare data exchange, sold by NextGen Healthcare. It converts protocols, transforms and maps messages between systems, and offers visual channel mapping, so that you can connect, for example, electronic health record systems and other clinical applications. You can run the software yourself on your own infrastructure, or NextGen can host it in its own US data centres or in its own AWS environment. A fully managed offering is currently available only in the United States.
Since version 4.6 (March 2025), Mirth Connect has been under a single commercial, proprietary licence; version 4.5.2 is the last open-source release and receives no further updates. NextGen Healthcare is a US company that has been owned by the private equity firm Thoma Bravo since 2023, which is a CLOUD Act signal. For a European organisation, self-hosting is the route to keeping data within its own environment. The Mirth Command Center component is not available in the EU or the UK.
