Money S3: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Money S3 is a Czech accounting program for businesses and sole traders. It covers double-entry bookkeeping, invoicing, cash register and tax records, payroll and personnel administration, a vehicle logbook and an address book. Connectors for online shops and an API are offered. The software is sold under licence and installed on the customer's own computers or on servers that the customer arranges.

Seyfor, a. s., the publisher of Money S3, has its registered seat in Brno, Czech Republic. Because the program runs on the customer's infrastructure, the customer decides where the accounting data is stored. Seyfor states that the backups it keeps for support are held on Microsoft Azure and do not leave the European Union. For a European organisation this makes Money S3 a self-hosted option, with one vendor-side copy to check against its own data policy: the support backups on Azure.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Money S3

Money S3 is headquartered in CZ and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Money S3 runs on infrastructure you choose and control yourself. You decide where the data lives, including fully within the EU if you want — this is not a fixed hosting choice made by the vendor.

Money S3 is closed source, but you run the software yourself on your own infrastructure. The encryption keys and the runtime therefore stay under your own control, though you cannot audit or modify the source code. Ask about export options and open standards to limit software-level lock-in.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Money S3 together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
