NEVIS Security: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Nevis is a Swiss provider of customer identity and access management (CIAM). The Nevis ID Platform offers identity management, orchestration, authentication, MFA, single sign-on, fraud detection and developer tooling, while the Nevis Authentication Cloud provides MFA, passwordless authentication and transaction confirmation. Its customers are mainly in banking, insurance and iGaming. According to its website, Nevis offers SaaS cloud solutions.

Nevis Security AG is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, with offices in Berlin, Budapest, Vienna and London, among others, and a US entity in Delaware. The company was separated from AdNovum in 2020 and, according to a 2019 report, remained owned by IHAG Holding, the holding company of AdNovum. Switzerland is not an EU member state but belongs to EFTA. The public pages do not name hosting locations or data centres, so a European organisation should have the region and sub-processors confirmed contractually. The software is not open source.

Why digital sovereignty matters with NEVIS Security

NEVIS Security is headquartered in Switzerland and falls under Swiss law, including the revised Swiss data protection act. Switzerland is not an EU member, but the European Commission recognises its level of data protection as adequate. Its Swiss headquarters does not by itself bring it under US legislation such as the CLOUD Act.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so NEVIS Security scores best on data residency.

NEVIS Security is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs NEVIS Security together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
