NovelAI is an AI service for writing stories and generating anime-style images. Writers and hobbyists use it to have text continued and to create images from a prompt. The service is offered as a web application run by the vendor. On its site the vendor names its own image-generation models and a story-generation model.
NovelAI is operated by Anlatan Inc., with an address in Boston in the United States. Its privacy policy names CoreWeave, Cloudflare and Google Cloud (for backups) as the providers running servers, network and backups, but gives no countries or regions, so it does not name EU storage. According to the policy, stories are encrypted in the browser before they are saved, and generation prompts are not stored; these are the vendor's own statements. For users in the EEA the policy lists GDPR rights such as access, correction and erasure. The vendor publishes no data processing agreement. As a US company, the vendor is subject to US law, including the CLOUD Act.
