OpenFaaS is a framework for building and running serverless functions on Kubernetes. Developers package functions as containers and deploy them with a command-line tool; the platform handles routing, scaling and metrics. It is aimed at teams that want functions-as-a-service on their own clusters and is delivered as software to install rather than as a hosted service. The project is maintained by OpenFaaS Ltd.
OpenFaaS Ltd is registered in England and Wales, so its seat is in the United Kingdom, outside the EU and EEA. The Community Edition is licensed under the OpenFaaS CE EULA, which requires a licence for commercial use; contributions from third parties are under the MIT licence. The project is therefore not open source in the OSI sense. Because the software runs on infrastructure the organisation controls, data location depends on the cluster. For a European organisation, the UK seat means the vendor is not established in the EU, and commercial use requires a licence from the vendor.
