Rosenpass is an open-source key-exchange protocol with an accompanying program that adds post-quantum security to WireGuard VPNs. It uses two post-quantum methods, Classic McEliece and Kyber, to agree a key and hands it to WireGuard as a pre-shared key; WireGuard itself continues to provide the classical security. It can also be used with other software that accepts pre-shared keys. Rosenpass is aimed at administrators who want to protect their own VPN connections against future attacks by quantum computers, and it is installed as a program on your own systems.
Rosenpass is developed by Rosenpass e.V., a registered association in Germany. The software is open source under the Apache 2.0 and MIT licences and runs entirely on your own infrastructure, with no data sent to the developers. Development was co-funded through NLnet and the EU's Next Generation Internet programme.
