The Schulcloud-Verbund software is the code base behind dBildungscloud, a German digital learning environment for schools. It offers learning materials, chat, assignments, video conferencing and connections to learning offers from many providers. The server application is built on NestJS, and teachers and pupils use the service as a web application in the browser. Development is active, with commits to the public repository in October 2026.
The Schulcloud-Verbund is a joint project of the German states of Lower Saxony, Brandenburg and Thuringia. Dataport AöR, a German public-law body, has handled technical operation and development, and the states have announced that the media institute FWU takes over as service provider from 1 August 2026. The source code is published under the GNU Affero General Public License v3, so anyone can inspect, modify and run it under the same terms. It is a European alternative to US collaboration suites such as Microsoft Teams for Education, and an education authority can also run its own instance.
