scikit-learn is an open-source machine learning library for Python. It provides tools to build, train and evaluate predictive models and is used for data analysis and research. The library is distributed as a Python package that users install on their own computers or servers, under the BSD 3-Clause licence.
The project is developed by a community of contributors, with a maintainers team and a published governance document. Probabl, a company whose registered office is in Paris, France, stewards the project and provides financial support, and the French national research institute INRIA holds the copyright on work done by its employees. Because the library runs locally and is not a service operated by a vendor, an organisation decides for itself where its data is processed. For European organisations this is an open option that they can operate under their own control.
