Sender: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Sender is an email marketing platform for creating, automating and sending emails. It offers automation flows with segmentation and premade workflows, a drag-and-drop builder, templates, landing pages, popups and forms, and also transactional email. Through a REST API, for which you create an access token in your account settings, you can sync subscribers, retrieve campaign statistics and activate workflows, among other things. Integrations include WordPress, WooCommerce, PrestaShop, Shopify and Zapier, plus an MCP server. The service is delivered as SaaS and is not open source.

According to its privacy policy, the website is owned and operated by UAB Sender.lt, a private limited company under Lithuanian law. Sender states GDPR compliance and ISO certification as its own claims, but its site does not say in which country or with which hosting provider its servers are located. No foreign parent company is named. A European organisation should have the server location and sub-processors confirmed in writing before supplying personal data.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Sender

Sender is headquartered in LT and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Sender scores best on data residency.

Sender is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Sender together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
