SHAI is an AI assistant for code that runs in the terminal, developed by OVHcloud and currently in alpha. The tool can run commands, handle multi-step tasks, edit files and, when a command fails, analyse its output and suggest a fix. A headless mode allows use in CI/CD pipelines and on servers. SHAI is written in Rust, open source under the Apache 2.0 licence and installed locally; the tool itself has no separate SaaS environment.
OVHcloud is a French company headquartered in Roubaix and subject to European jurisdiction. By default SHAI uses OVHcloud AI Endpoints, which according to OVHcloud are hosted in the European Union, retain no data except for billing, and do not use customer data for training. Users can sign in with an OVHcloud account or configure another model provider with their own key, in which case that provider determines where prompts are processed. This makes SHAI suitable for organisations that want coding assistance combined with European model hosting.
