SigNoz: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

SigNoz is an observability platform built on OpenTelemetry, marketed as an open-source alternative to Datadog. It brings traces, metrics and logs together in one application, with APM, exceptions, alerts, dashboards and LLM observability. For metrics it supports PromQL and monitoring of Kubernetes and hosts; logs are searched in a columnar database with built-in correlation to traces. It is available as a managed service (SigNoz Cloud) and as a self-hosted version that you run on your own infrastructure using Docker, Kubernetes or Linux.

For SigNoz Cloud, you can create a workspace in the US, EU or India region. Organisations that want to keep data entirely under their own control can self-host the open-source edition; the enterprise self-hosted tier adds data residency controls, among other features. The SigNoz website does not state where the company is headquartered. For a European organisation, the EU region and self-hosting are therefore two ways to keep telemetry data inside Europe.

Why digital sovereignty matters with SigNoz

SigNoz is headquartered in the United States. US vendors fall under the CLOUD Act and FISA 702: US authorities can compel access to data, even when that data sits in a European data centre. That is the core of the jurisdictional exposure in our model.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so SigNoz scores best on data residency.

SigNoz is open source. You can audit the source code, self-host the software and keep the encryption keys under your own control. Switching is easier because data and software are not tied to a single party.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs SigNoz together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
