SoapUI Open Source is a desktop application for functional testing of web services and APIs. Testers and developers use it to build test cases for SOAP and REST services, check responses with assertions and simulate services with mocks. It is installed locally on Windows, macOS or Linux. According to the project site, more advanced capabilities, such as security testing and service virtualisation, belong to the commercial ReadyAPI.
SoapUI Open Source is maintained by SmartBear, a software company headquartered in Somerville, Massachusetts, in the United States. SmartBear also sells the commercial ReadyAPI. The open-source edition is licensed under the European Union Public Licence (EUPL) and runs entirely on your own computer, so test definitions and responses stay within your own environment unless you send them elsewhere yourself. The source code is public on GitHub, which allows inspection and in-house builds for organisations that need them.
