Supabase is a platform for building applications, with modules for database, authentication, functions, realtime, storage, vectors and scheduled jobs. It is often described as an open-source alternative to Firebase. Developers use it as a managed cloud service in which each project runs in one primary region, and that region determines where the primary project data is stored.
Supabase offers several European regions, including Ireland, Paris, Frankfurt and Stockholm, as well as London and Zurich, which are outside the EU. Organisations that need data to stay within a particular jurisdiction should therefore pick a specific region. The data controller is Supabase Pte. Ltd.; the website is primarily served from the United States, and transfers of personal data to the US and Singapore rely on standard contractual clauses. The code is open source, so the stack can in principle also run on infrastructure you operate yourself. For a European organisation, choosing an EU region addresses where project data is stored, but corporate seat and ownership of the provider remain points to assess.
