TrailBase is an open-source backend for mobile, web and desktop applications, positioned as an alternative to Firebase. In a single executable it provides storage for relational data and files, authentication, an admin interface, type-safe REST and realtime APIs, a WebAssembly runtime for custom server logic and geospatial support. The server is built on Rust and SQLite, with experimental Postgres support. Client libraries exist for JavaScript/TypeScript, Dart, Swift, Kotlin, Go and Python, among others. The README gives its status as alpha.
TrailBase is made by a developer in Switzerland; no legal entity is named. The server is licensed under the Open Software License 3.0 and the client libraries under Apache-2.0. Development was co-funded through the EU's NGI Zero programme, administered by NLnet. You install TrailBase yourself, for example from a binary or a Docker image, so data stays on your own infrastructure. No hosted service from the maintainer was found; an online demo is available.
