Univention develops Nubus, an open-source identity and access management platform, and Univention Corporate Server (UCS), the environment in which Nubus can run as a virtual machine. Nubus manages users, groups and roles centrally and provides single sign-on, optional multi-factor authentication and a portal for approved applications. It is built on open standards such as LDAP, SAML, OpenID Connect, SCIM and Kerberos. UCS@school adapts the platform for education. ZenDiS describes Nubus as a building block in the architecture of openDesk.
Univention GmbH is based in Bremen, Germany. Nubus is presented as 100% open source. You can run it in your own data centre, in a cloud environment, on Kubernetes or as SaaS, or with a service provider of your choice. For a European organisation this means identity data can stay on its own infrastructure, or with a provider it selects, within its chosen jurisdiction. Paid enterprise subscriptions add support, updates and long-term maintenance.
