The service is delivered as a cloud service and is aimed at developers and businesses that want to build messaging into their own applications.

Vonage Holdings is a US company headquartered in Holmdel, New Jersey. Since July 2022 it has been a wholly owned subsidiary of the Swedish company Ericsson. The service is not open source. As a US legal entity, Vonage falls under US jurisdiction even though its parent company is in Sweden. The sources consulted do not document hosting regions for the SMS service.
