Vorta is a desktop client for BorgBackup on macOS and Linux, meant to protect data against disk failure, ransomware and theft. Profiles group source folders, destinations and schedules. Borg provides encrypted, deduplicated and compressed backups; Vorta shows all archives in one place and lets you restore individual files. Destinations can be a local drive, your own server or BorgBase. Windows is not supported, because Borg itself is not fully supported there.
Vorta is open source (GPL-3.0) and is developed by Manuel Riel and contributors. BorgBase, a hosting service for Borg backups run by Peakford Ltd of Malta, lists Vorta among its own open-source offerings. Vorta itself has no cloud service; where your data resides depends on the destination you choose. BorgBase lets you place each repository in the EU or in the United States. Borg states that the backup server never needs to be trusted, because it only sees ciphertext. With your own server, you keep full control.
