WordPerfect Office is an office suite from Corel, built around the WordPerfect word processor. Corel acquired WordPerfect from Novell in 1996, and its product page presents WordPerfect as an office suite for everyday document work. It is a commercial product sold by Corel rather than a free or open-source program, so organisations license and maintain it under vendor terms.
Corel has its head office in Ottawa, Canada, outside the EU. Its ownership has changed several times: according to Wikipedia, the private-equity firm KKR acquired the company in 2019, and a 2026 restructuring gave Vector Capital, another US investor, Corel's productivity and creative software businesses. A US owner can be subject to US legal demands such as the CLOUD Act, which is the main sovereignty consideration for European customers. The Corel pages consulted do not state where customer data is processed, so buyers should ask for hosting and data-processing terms in writing before deployment.
