Acumatica: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Acumatica is a cloud ERP system for growing and mid-sized businesses. It covers financial management, multi-entity accounting, project accounting, order, inventory and warehouse management, CRM, payroll, reporting and point of sale, with industry editions for construction, distribution, manufacturing, retail and field service. It runs in a web browser and is offered as a software-as-a-service subscription or, according to Acumatica, as a private cloud subscription that customers host themselves.

Acumatica is headquartered in Bellevue, Washington. It has been owned by the investment firm Vista Equity Partners since 2025, after EQT held it from 2019, so company and ultimate parent are both American. The software is proprietary. Acumatica's FAQ says its SaaS instances are hosted on Amazon Web Services, with an AWS facility in Canada for Canadian customers. The FAQ names no European regions, so European organisations should ask Acumatica or their partner where a tenant would be hosted.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Acumatica

Acumatica is headquartered in the United States. US vendors fall under the CLOUD Act and FISA 702: US authorities can compel access to data, even when that data sits in a European data centre. That is the core of the jurisdictional exposure in our model.

Acumatica hosts data outside the EU (US, OTHER). Personal data therefore leaves the EU, which requires a transfer mechanism under the GDPR and pulls the data residency score down.

Acumatica is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Acumatica together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
