Invoice Ninja is an invoicing and payments platform for freelancers and small businesses, as well as consultants, agencies and accountants. It covers invoices and quotes, with e-signature approval, online payments through gateways such as Stripe, PayPal, Square and GoCardless, recurring invoices, expenses, time tracking, projects, Kanban boards and a branded client portal. It is built with Laravel and offers native apps for iPhone, Android, macOS, Windows and Linux. You can use the vendor's hosted platform or install it yourself on a server, with Docker or through providers such as Cloudron.
The source code is public, but it is released under the Elastic License, which is source-available rather than open source. The privacy policy of the hosted service lists Cloudflare, OVH Cloud and Linode as hosting providers without stating which regions are used. The vendor's SOC 2 examination covers the hosted platform only, not self-hosted installations, and the report is available under NDA. When you self-host, you choose the server location and carry responsibility for security. That is the clearest way to control where data is stored.
