AFFiNE is an open-source workspace that combines block-based documents, an edgeless whiteboard and databases in a single application. Teams and individuals use it for notes, wikis, visual planning, mind maps and project tracking, with optional AI features for drafting, summarising and answering questions about the workspace. It is local-first and is available as desktop, web, iOS and Android apps, through a hosted web app at app.affine.pro, or self-hosted.
The Community Edition is released under the MIT licence. Self-hosting runs on Docker Compose, Postgres and Redis, so an organisation can keep all workspace data on its own infrastructure in a location of its choosing. The vendor also mentions private-cloud and self-hosted options in an enterprise offering. The product pages do not say where the hosted service stores data or which legal entity operates it, so organisations using the hosted web app should clarify this with the vendor beforehand. Where strict data-residency requirements apply, self-hosting keeps control with the organisation.
